Columbian Squires

Columbian SquiresColumbian SquiresThe Columbian Squires, the youth organization of the Knights of Columbus, is one of the most dynamic leadership development organizations for young Catholic men in the world.

The Squires, an international youth organization, has more than 25,000 Catholic young men, ages 10 to 18, in over 1,400 circles worldwide. Circles exist throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Panama, Cuba, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and on U.S. military bases abroad.

In Luzon, Columbian Squires have more than 10,300 members in 441 circles while Visayas have 2,826 members in 133 circles and Mindanao have 3,531 members in 183 Circles.

Founded on August 4, 1925 with the institution of Duluth Circle 1 in Duluth, Minnesota, the Columbian Squires program strives to provide the spiritual, cultural, civic, social and physical improvement of its members, and the development of their leadership qualities to enhance a young man’s opportunity in life – a chance to receive the leadership training and moral guidance needed to succeed.

The Squires Program enriches the members in many ways. The Program confirms the Squires commitment to the Church and strengthens their moral character. Columbian Squire members gain a sense of the diversity of people in the world, and find their own place in the community. The Program teaches the squires the value of charitable activities as it helps the squires body grow strong and prepare them to work with other people by fostering team spirit. The Program makes the squires more comfortable in many situations. It increases the squires’ awareness of the young men – and of their responsibility toward their growth to become a better leader.

Local Knights of Columbus councils and assemblies sponsor Squire circles, which may be based either in a council/assembly hall, in a parish building, a parochial, private, public or military school, or on a military installation. The Squires involves young men in programs to benefit the Church, the community, as well as in recreational and social activities.

Knights of Columbus Columbian Squires

Luzon Jurisdiction

The Columbian Squires of the Luzon Jurisdiction is a dynamic organization of young Catholic gentlemen inspired by Bro. Barnabas McDonald, our founder.

Molded by the charism of the Knights of Columbus, we develop responsible youth leaders through spiritual, physical, intellectual and civic cultural formation.

We, the Columbian Squires of the Luzon Jurisdiction, empowered by the spirit of Christ’s examples, through character building, are committed to respond to the call of the Holy Catholic Church, to be worthy and motivated leaders by establishing a culture of Columbianism that addresses the spiritual, physical, intellectual and social needs of the young Filipino men in their journey to Knighthood.
